Q: What Riccar products can help me with cleaning pet hair from my home?
A: Upright Vacuums

Puppy Uprights (8900 series) are ideal for cleaning homes with more carpeting than bare floors. Riccar uprights have a metal brush roll that uses four long-lasting, highly resilient nylon bristles that are stiffer than most bristles on other brands of vacuums. Stiffer bristles are designed to pick up more dirt from your carpet, including hair and used for better grooming. The bristles "ball" up the pet hair, making it easier for the vacuum to pick up.

Riccar’s 8900 Series upright vacuums feature Filtrete media by 3M, which captures 99.97% of all contaminants, making them a perfect choice for allergy sufferers. Its captures contaminants as small as 0.1 microns like dust, pollen, ragweed, dust mites, bacteria, and tobacco smoke.

Optional tools and attachments, such as turbo brushes will make cleaning easier and more effective for cleaning pet hair on furniture, draperies, and hard to reach places.

Tools and Attachments

Riccar offers three different attachment sets for your special needs cleaning or for cleaning those hard to reach places that are usually piled with pet hair. All attachments are universal fit-all for any model or brand. Simply plug one end of the hose into the back of your Riccar upright vacuum and the other end attach your desired brush. Clean your stairs, furniture, blinds, curtains, ceiling fans, closets, cars and more. All sets come with one hose, attachment wands and brushes.

  • Using a dusting brush can work wonders in grabbing fine pet hair. The brush grabs tiny hairs and collects them together, resulting in a hairball to stick to the attachment’s bristles. The vacuum can suck up the ball of hair easier.
  • Use the crevice tool to help isolate hair stuck in between furniture cushions, which may harbor accumulated pet hair.
  • Shorter nozzle attachments enable pet owners to easily sweep pet hairs off curtains and fabric blinds.

*Available with both uprights and canisters.

Canister Vacuums

Riccar Canister vacuums are best suited for homes that have more bare floors than carpeting. Pet owners generally find canisters as the most effective vacuum to use for cleaning pet hair. Canisters are easy to maneuver and have the same great filtration as an upright. Using attachment tools with the canisters will maximize your cleaning ability. The RC 1500 features an interchangeable "Turbo Chamber" Brush Roll Tray and agitator designed to produce carpet penetration for better pick-up of pet hair and dirt.

Q: What are some cleaning tips for pet care-takers?
A: Pet Hair Cleaning Tips

Riccar America provides several tips, that, when combined with consistent vacuuming habits, can ensure a hair-free home.
  1. Invest in lint or pet hair rollers. Made up of layers of sticky tape, pet hair rollers are easy to use and offer a quick solution for tough pet hair issues. Although vacuuming removes the loose hairs off of upholstery, the pet hair rollers finish the job by grabbing hair that has woven into or layered on furniture. Be selective about what rollers you purchase, some lint rollers can actually make pet hair problems worse by leaving a sticky film on upholstery, which attracts more hair.
  2. Wear rubber gloves to help grab loose pet hair off of furniture and upholstery. Rubbing a gloved hand over affected areas ball up pet hair. The hairballs usually end up clinging to the gloves for easier clean up. Remaining hair can be vacuumed up in minutes.
  3. Dampen a washcloth to rub over extremely hairy areas. A damp washcloth works almost the same way as the rubber gloves, making pet hair stick to the washcloth, which can be tossed in the dirty laundry.
  4. Vacuum your pets, if possible. Many dogs love the massaging feel of a vacuum hose, which removes lose hair that would otherwise be shed. When vacuuming your pet, do not use attachment tools. Attachments could get tangled in the animal's hair.
  5. Beware: Do NOT vacuum your pet if it is afraid of the vacuum cleaner. Vacuuming an animal that is afraid of the vacuum could result in an injury to the pet owner. As a rule, cats are not fond of vacuum cleaners, therefore, do NOT vacuum your cat.
  6. Brush your pets outside. Brushing helps remove loose hair and dander, and most animals enjoy the experience.
  7. Of course, you can also give your pet a haircut for a new look and less shedding during the hot months.
